Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask most about making slideshows with Fliptastic. Still stuck? Get in touch and a human will reply.
Getting started
What is Fliptastic?
Fliptastic is a slideshow maker for iPhone and iPad. You choose photos, and it turns them into a video with transitions, effects and music that you can post to Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube or share anywhere else. It requires iOS 15 or later and is free to download.
How do I make a slideshow?
Tap Create Slideshow on the home screen, pick your photos from your camera roll, the built-in stock photo library or the camera, then tap Next. On the Make Video screen you can set transitions, effects, music and per-slide duration. When it looks right, tap Share to export it.
How many photos can I add to one slideshow?
Up to 500 photos on devices with 4GB of memory or more, 300 on 3GB devices, 200 on 2GB devices and 100 on older hardware. The limit depends on your device memory, not on whether you subscribe — it is the same for free and Premium users.
How do I rearrange photos?
Press and hold a photo in the Photos view, then drag it across the screen to move it to a new position in the sequence.
Does Fliptastic work on iPad?
Yes. Fliptastic is a universal app built for both iPhone and iPad, with layouts adapted for the larger screen rather than a scaled-up iPhone interface. It needs iPadOS 15 or later.
AI Auto-Create
What does AI Auto-Create do?
AI Auto-Create looks through your recent photos and builds a slideshow for you. It scores images on faces, sharpness, brightness, composition and scene content, then selects the strongest set and arranges them automatically. It is available to everyone, including free users.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere when I use AI Auto-Create?
No. Analysis runs entirely on your device using Apple’s Vision framework. Your photos are never uploaded to a server and are never sent to a third party. Fliptastic may need a connection only to download your own photos from iCloud when they are not already stored on your device.
Fliptastic Premium
What is included for free?
A free download gives you AI Auto-Create, all 13 photo filters and the full photo editor, all four export formats, the Crossfade and Ken Burns transitions, the festive effect set, 17 of the 26 theme songs, your own music from your library, text slides and unlimited saved projects. Videos exported on the free tier carry a small Fliptastic watermark.
What does Fliptastic Premium unlock?
Premium removes the watermark from every export and unlocks all 17 transitions including the Galaxy set, all 24 effects including Love, Starry and Lunar, and all 26 theme songs. It also includes any transitions, effects and songs added in future updates.
How much does Fliptastic Premium cost?
Fliptastic Premium is $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year, which works out to about $2.50 a month. Prices are shown in your local currency inside the app and may vary by region. A subscription covers one Apple ID and can be shared through Family Sharing where enabled.
Can I remove the watermark without subscribing?
No. Watermark-free export is part of Fliptastic Premium. Everything else in the app, including AI Auto-Create and the full photo editor, works without a subscription.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by Fliptastic. Open the Settings app on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and select Fliptastic to cancel or change your plan. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.
I bought the Pro upgrade or an effect pack years ago. What happens to it?
Your previous purchases are still recognised and the content you bought stays unlocked. Fliptastic no longer sells individual packs — everything is now part of the Premium subscription. If your purchases do not appear, tap Restore Purchases in Settings while signed in to the same Apple ID you originally bought them with.
How do I restore my purchases?
Open Settings inside Fliptastic and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID that made the original purchase — you can check which account you are using in the iOS Settings app under your name.
Making videos
Which formats can I export?
Four: 9:16 for Instagram Reels and TikTok, 16:9 for YouTube, 8:10 for Instagram posts and 1:1 square. All four are available on the free tier.
Can I use my own music?
Yes. You can add songs from your device music library alongside the 26 built-in theme songs. Some tracks bought from iTunes are DRM protected by Apple and cannot be used in a video — that restriction comes from Apple and is outside our control. Making sure the song is downloaded locally to your device often helps.
Why can’t I hear the music I added?
Check that your device volume is turned up and that the silent switch is off. If you are previewing with headphones, confirm they are connected to the right device.
Can I change how long each photo appears?
Yes. On the Make Video screen, open Duration to set the time per slide, or adjust the total length. You can also set a different duration for individual slides.
What if I don’t have enough photos?
Fliptastic includes a built-in stock photo library powered by Pexels, so you can search and drop in professional images without leaving the app. You can also add text slides as intros, titles or outros.
Where are my saved projects?
Tap My Projects on the home screen. Projects are saved on your device and can be reopened and edited at any time. There is no limit on how many you can keep.
Troubleshooting
The app crashed while making a slideshow. What should I do?
The most common cause is the device running out of memory, which is more likely on older hardware or with a very large number of high-resolution photos. Try again with fewer photos, close other apps running in the background, and restart your device. If it keeps happening, email hello@fliptastic.me with your device model and iOS version.
How do I change the background colour behind my photos?
On the Make Video screen, open Background and choose the colour or fill you want. You can also change how each photo fits the frame using Fit, Fill or Blur Fill.
Why is the progress bar showing on my lock screen?
That is a Live Activity showing how far along your video export is, so you can leave the app while it finishes. It requires iOS 16.2 or later and can be turned off in the iOS Settings app under Fliptastic.
